Christmas & New Year in the Algarve

The Algarve is a great place to spend Christmas if you want to get away from it all or you just fancy a change. The weather is normally mild and sunny, and it’s a great time for walking along the many beaches.

We always have a walk along our local beach Praia Grande in Pera on Christmas morning with our dog Sammy.

Or if you’re feeling brave and want to help a local charity you could go for a dip or a paddle and join in the annual charity dip in Armacao de Pera just before Christmas lunch – the charity raises money for shoes for children.

We usually spend New Year’s Eve in Albufeira which is well known for their open air concert at Fisherman’s Beach (Praia dos Pescadores) and watch the fireworks at midnight. Take your waterproofs or umbrella for the shower of bubbly at midnight!

It’s a very relaxed and enjoyable way to see the New Year in. Many of the resort have bands playing and fireworks and all the bars and clubs stay open until the early hours for the celebrations to continue.
